Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Shooting Cut — the smart video analysis tool for competitive shooters.
What is Shooting Cut?
Shooting Cut is a native Apple app for competitive shooters (IPSC, USPSA, IDPA) that automatically analyzes and edits match videos. It uses automatic audio analysis to detect timer beeps and gunshots, then provides auto trim, performance subtitles, dual-camera sync, and multi-camera stage mix editing. Available on macOS, iPad, and iPhone.
What shooting disciplines does Shooting Cut support?
Shooting Cut works with all major practical/action shooting disciplines: IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation), USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association), and IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association). The timer detection and shot analysis work with standard competition timer signals used across all these disciplines.
What platforms does Shooting Cut run on?
Shooting Cut runs natively on macOS (14.0 Sonoma or later), iPad (iPadOS 17.0+), and iPhone (iOS 17.0+). The macOS version features a sidebar + editor layout, the iPad shares the macOS layout with touch optimization, and the iPhone has a purpose-built 6-tab workflow. One App Store purchase covers all your Apple devices.
Does Shooting Cut work offline?
Yes. Shooting Cut processes everything locally on your device. Your videos never leave your phone, iPad, or Mac. All audio analysis, trimming, syncing, and exporting happens on-device using Apple's native frameworks. No internet connection or cloud upload is required.
How does Shooting Cut detect shots and timer beeps?
Shooting Cut analyzes the audio track of your match video to automatically detect timer beeps and gunshot impulses. It calculates precise split times, first-shot reaction time, and total stage time — all automatically, no manual input needed.
What is the difference between Auto Trim, Split Sync, and Stage Mix?
Auto Trim works with a single video — it detects the timer start and last shot, then trims the clip with customizable padding. Split Sync takes exactly 2 videos and places them side-by-side, auto-aligned by the timer beep, for comparing angles (e.g., POV vs. follow-cam). Stage Mix takes 3+ camera angles and auto-edits a highlight reel, intelligently switching between POV during shooting and follow-cam during movement.
What are Performance Subtitles?
Performance Subtitles overlay real-time shooting statistics directly onto your exported video: shot number, individual split time, cumulative time, first-shot reaction time, and best split. Choose from six color options to match any background. Great for sharing training clips on social media with visible performance data.
Can I compare two camera angles of the same stage?
Yes — that's exactly what Split Sync does. Import two videos of the same stage run (e.g., POV and follow-cam), and Shooting Cut automatically detects the timer beep in both clips and aligns them perfectly. View them in side-by-side split-screen or HUD overlay layout.
Can Shooting Cut handle multi-camera stage videos?
Yes. Stage Mix mode accepts 3 or more camera angles. Label each as POV, Follow, or Static, and the app auto-edits a highlight reel — choosing POV during shooting and follow-cam during movement. You can manually override any cut point to fine-tune the final edit.
Can I export match videos in different aspect ratios for social media?
Yes. Use Export Ratio to switch between 9:16 (TikTok, Reels), 1:1 (Instagram), 16:9 (YouTube), or keep the original source ratio. For any non-source ratio, tap Track to select the shooter — the Portrait Tracking feature uses smart reframing to follow and keep them centered in every frame. You can also tap Re-track to switch targets or fix drifting, and adjust Tracking Sensitivity to control how quickly the system re-prompts when tracking is lost.
Does Shooting Cut require an account or sign-up?
No. Shooting Cut requires no account creation, no sign-up, no email, and no login. Just download from the App Store and start using it immediately. There is no user tracking or analytics collection.
Where are my videos stored? Is my data private?
All your videos and data stay entirely on your device and in your personal iCloud account. Shooting Cut never uploads your footage to any third-party server. Videos sync between your Apple devices via iCloud and Apple Photos — the same secure infrastructure you already use. No data leaves your personal Apple ecosystem.
How does Shooting Cut compare to cloud-based video tools for privacy?
Unlike web-based shooting video tools that require uploading your footage to their servers, Shooting Cut processes everything locally on your device. Your match videos never touch a third-party server. Data syncs only through your personal iCloud and Apple Photos accounts, which you fully control. No account, no tracking, no third-party data sharing.
Can I share my edited videos directly to social media?
Yes. Shooting Cut integrates with the iOS/macOS share sheet, so you can export and share directly to YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram — all with one tap. No manual export-then-upload workflow needed.
How much does Shooting Cut cost?
Shooting Cut is available on the App Store. One purchase gives you access on all your Apple devices — macOS, iPad, and iPhone. Check the App Store listing for current pricing in your region.

What is the best app for analyzing IPSC match videos?
Shooting Cut is purpose-built for IPSC, USPSA, and IDPA match video analysis. It offers automatic audio-based shot detection, precise split time calculation, multi-camera sync and editing, and performance subtitle overlays — all running natively on your Apple devices with offline processing.
How is Shooting Cut different from other shooting video tools?
Shooting Cut is a native Apple app with full offline processing and unique multi-camera capabilities (Split Sync for 2 cameras, Stage Mix for 3+). Unlike web-based tools, your videos never leave your device. It uses audio-based shot detection for fast, reliable results, and offers features like performance subtitles overlay that you won't find elsewhere.
