Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the full competitive-shooting video editor for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

General

What is Shooting Cut?

Shooting Cut is a full competitive-shooting video editor for IPSC, USPSA, and IDPA footage. It combines automatic audio analysis with trimming, multi-clip merging, synchronized multi-camera editing, person tracking, performance data, and flexible exports on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

What shooting disciplines does Shooting Cut support?

Shooting Cut works with all major practical/action shooting disciplines: IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation), USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association), and IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association). The timer detection and shot analysis work with standard competition timer signals used across all these disciplines.

What platforms does Shooting Cut run on?

Shooting Cut runs natively on Mac (macOS 26.0+), iPad (iPadOS 26.0+), and iPhone (iOS 26.0+). The Mac and iPad use a spacious editor layout, while iPhone has a purpose-built touch workflow. One subscription covers all your Apple devices.

Which processing runs on device?

Core audio/video analysis and person tracking run on device. Raw footage is not uploaded to a Shooting Cut media-processing server for editing or analysis, and there is no cross-app advertising tracking. See our Privacy Policy for iCloud, subscription, telemetry, score import, and user-initiated upload details.

Features & Modes

How does Shooting Cut detect shots and timer beeps?

Shooting Cut analyzes the audio track of your match video to automatically detect timer beeps and gunshot impulses. It calculates precise split times, first-shot reaction time, and total stage time — all automatically, no manual input needed.

What is the difference between Auto Trim, Merge, Split Sync, and Stage Mix?

Auto Trim is the free editing mode: it takes exactly 1 video and trims it around the stage run. Pro unlocks Merge for up to 20 sequential videos, Split Sync for exactly 2 synchronized videos, Stage Mix for 2–3 videos labeled POV, Follow, or Static, and Strings Mode for a classifier, Standards, or Steel Challenge run recorded as several strings.

What are Performance Subtitles?

Performance Subtitles are available in the free Auto Trim workflow. They can overlay shot number, individual split time, cumulative time, first-shot reaction time, and best split on the exported video. Choose from six color options and review the result before export.

Can I compare two camera angles of the same stage?

Yes. Pro Split Sync takes exactly 2 videos of the same stage run and aligns them by the timer beep. Full Screen stacks both views top and bottom at 9:16, the Center HUD and Top HUD layouts use 3:4, and Side by Side places both views left and right at 16:9. Multi-angle top-and-bottom and HUD layouts support 50/50, 40/60, and 30/70 pane ratios; same-view comparison stays at 50/50.

Can Shooting Cut handle multi-camera stage videos?

Yes. Stage Mix takes 2–3 videos labeled POV, Follow, or Static. Automatic movement-aware switching builds the edit, and you can manually override any cut.

Can I export match videos in different aspect ratios for social media?

Yes. Reframe and Track are available in the free Auto Trim workflow. Choose a supported 9:16, 3:4, 4:5, 6:7, or 1:1 tracked crop, keep the Source frame, or use the separate non-tracked 16:9 path. You can re-track to switch subjects or correct drift and adjust tracking sensitivity.

Privacy & Data

Does Shooting Cut require an account or sign-up?

No. Shooting Cut requires no account creation, no sign-up, no email, and no login. Download it from the App Store and start editing.

Where are my videos stored? Is my data private?

Core audio/video analysis and person tracking run on device. Raw footage is not uploaded to a Shooting Cut media-processing server for editing or analysis, and there is no cross-app advertising tracking. See our Privacy Policy for iCloud, subscription, telemetry, score import, and user-initiated upload details.

What should I know about connected services?

Some workflows can involve iCloud, subscription services, telemetry, score import, or a user-initiated upload. The Privacy Policy explains when those services are involved and what data they handle.

Sharing & Export

Can I share my edited videos directly to social media?

Yes. A free Auto Trim workflow can export to the device, use the system share sheet, or choose one supported sharing destination at a time. YouTube and Facebook uploads require separate platform authorization, and Facebook direct upload publishes to a Page rather than a personal profile. Pro enables multi-platform sharing in one workflow.

Pricing & Availability

How much does Shooting Cut cost?
